SMP Racing junior driver Michael Belov scored a second place and a third in two races of the fifth Italian Formula 4 Championship round, which took place on August 31 - September 1 at the Imola circuit (Italy).

In the first Saturday race, Belov started from fifth position, managed to overtake his rivals ahead, and was classified third. In the evening race, Michael had a great fight, gained three positions, and ended up fourth at the finish line.

In the third race of the weekend, the SMP Racing driver started fifth again. By the middle of the race, Michael managed to overtake three rivals and move up to second place. The speed of the car allowed Belov to compete for the lead, but due to an accident between other drivers, the yellow flag appeared on the track just before the checkered flag, and the Russian did not have enough time for a decisive attack. Michael drove the fastest lap in the race of 1: 45.538.

There was another race for the participants this weekend - one race of the second round was canceled due to weather conditions and postponed to Imola. Michael started from ninth place and finished fifth.

“The weekend began with two practice sessions and we had a good pace,” Michael Belov said. “In the qualifying rounds, I was fifth and seventh fastest and then I was able to finish in the first five in all the races. In two races I even managed to get on the podium. The third race turned out to be special for me: I started from fifth place, and after the third turn I already moved up to third place. The fight with my rivals continued until the seventh turn, after which I managed to build a gap away from them. Further, I was able to increase the gap and gradually get close to the car in second position. I managed to overtake it on the outside in one of the turns and then get close to the leader, but due to the safety car on the track, it was not possible to make a move. I hope that at the next round I will have a chance to fight for the victory, that is our goal.”

Michael Belov has scored 121 points so far and currently holds fourth place in the overall standings among twenty-two drivers.

The sixth round of the Italian Formula 4 Championship will take place on October 4-6 at the Mugello circuit (Italy).
