Alexander Smolyar was second fastest in Sunday’s qualifying in Germany

SMP Racing junior driver Alexander Smolyar was second in Sunday's qualifying of the ninth Formula Renault Eurocup round, which takes place on October 4-6 at the German Hockenheimring circuit.

Qualifying took place in rain conditions, but Alexander from the very beginning showed his capabilities - Smolyar held provisional pole and the end of the half-hour qualifying round set a time of 1:51.803, losing only 0.272 seconds to the Frenchman Victor Martins.

The SMP Racing junior driver will start the second race of the ninth Formula Renault Eurocup round from the front row. The start of the race is at 16:20 Local time.

“I am very pleased with the qualifying result, it means a good starting position, which is especially important in such rainy weather,” Alexander Smolyar said. “Unfortunately, I lost too much time in the second sector. We need to study the telemetry in order to understand why this happened and to work on it. However, compared with the qualifying time of yesterday, I am very pleased with the result and ready to fight for the victory."

On Saturday, Alexander Smolyar was third fastest in qualifying, tried to gain positions in the race, but retired after contact with one of his rivals.
