The circuit was opened in 2004. The main purposes at the moment of opening are as follows: drag racing, the GP2 and Bahrain Grand Prix races hosting. In 2004 the Grand Prix races were hosted in the Middle East for the first time ever. From 2006 this track hosted many championships on the basis of the FIA Grade 1 license.
