SMP Racing driver Dmitry Samorukov participated in the third round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship, which took place on July 5-7 at Kuahava in Finland.

In the qualifying session on Friday, Dmitry stormed to 6.3 seconds and was classified fifth among twelve participants. On Saturday, Samorukov wasn’t able to improve the result due to traction problems on the dragstrip. It turned out that the organizers sprayed a mixture of different types of glue that influenced the quality of traction. They had to urgently change the glue layer in order to hold the finals.

On Sunday, the final rounds took place according to the event plan. Dmitry Samorukov reached the final 16 and competed with the Finnish driver Jere Rantaniemi. Two ProMods drove the distance at almost the same time with a 0.1s gap at the finish line. However, Dmitry couldn’t continue to fight further as his reaction time wasn’t as fast as Jere’s.

“Each round of the European Drag Racing Championship is a new experience for us, we are gradually progressing,” Dmitry Samorukov said. “Yes, this time we reached the round of 16, but the race was smooth, without mistakes and failures. I think this is a great achievement considering we could not properly set up the car, because it was impossible to find traction. Other participants complained about the same problem and the organizers managed to completely remove the 60 feet surface and glue the dragstrip again. We are surprised by such efficiency and want to thank them for their great work. I also want to point out how amazingly our SMP Racing team worked while preparing the Pro Modified car, styled as a Chevrolet Camaro. Thanks to their effort, the car was fully prepared for both the qualifying sessions and the final heats. I am sure that we will achieve much better results in the next round.”

The fourth round of the FIA European Drag Racing Championship will take place on August 16 – 18 at Hockenheim, Germany.
