SMP Racing driver Robert Shwartzman took part in the fifth round of FIA Formula 3, which took place on August 3-4 in Hungary at the Hungaroring circuit. In the first race of the weekend, Robert finished in fifth position. In Race 2, he was forced to retire due to a broken front wing after a collision with one of his rivals. Shwartzman kept the lead in the overall standings with 124 points, 12 points ahead from the nearest rival.
The sixth round of FIA Formula 3 will take place on August 30 - September 1 in Belgium on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
“Our qualifying was not bad, the pace was good,” SMP Racing driver Robert Shwartzman said. “We could have been even second, but I did not manage to string together all my sectors. In the first race for some reason I could not start right away, we are now trying to figure out the reason for it. We lost a lot of time, but expected that during the race my rivals will be wearing their tyres quite a lot, and there would be more chances for overtaking. But it turned out that my tyre consumption was the same as theirs, and our plan did not work out.
The start of the Sunday race was not very good, but at least I did not lose my position and tried to fight further. I realized that I couldn’t overtake my rivals ahead right away, and I decided to watch out for my tyre consumption, especially since the front left wheel started to be worn out again. Seven laps before the finish, Felipe Drugovich made a mistake in the turn and I tried to pass him on the outside. At the exit of the turn, he began to force me off the track, there was not enough space, he touched my wing and it broke. Unfortunately, this was the end of the race for me.
To be honest, this weekend was not the best one for me. There is a summer break ahead, we will rest a bit. We should forget all the bad moments and start the next round fully refreshed.”
