SMP Racing driver Robert Shwartzman took part in the three-day post-season tests of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, which took place on December 5-7 at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi (UAE).
The Russian sat behind the wheel of a Formula 2 car for the first time and according to the results of three-day tests his best time was 1: 50.176, which is the second best result among 22 participants. Shwartzman lost 0.052 seconds to the Swiss Formula 2 driver Louis Delétraz, who was fastest during all the three test days.In the 2020 season, Robert Shwartzman will drive in the FIA Formula 2 Championship for the Prema Racing team, alongside the German driver Mick Schumacher, who has already spent a season in this championship and was classified twelfth by the end of this year.
“I have good impressions, the tests were successful,” SMP Racing driver Robert Shwartzman said. “The car, of course, is different compared to a Formula 3 one, so it took me a little time to get used to it, to understand it. In general, I am satisfied, because we have a good pace, both in the race and in qualifying. I already learned how to start fast and practiced pit stops too. We did a great job, I learned a lot and can’t wait until the start of the 2020 season. I hope everything will be fine and we will achieve great results.”
The racing season of the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship starts on March 20 in Bahrain.
