SMP Racing junior driver Irina Sidorkova will take part in a W Series new driver selection test for the 2020 season, which will take place on September 16-18 in Spain at the Almeria track.

W Series is an international formula championship for women, which was launched in 2019. Fourteen girls from twelve countries will compete for eight places on the starting grid of next season in the selection tests next week.

Tests will include work both on the simulator and on the track. Contenders for the next season will show their full potential driving a Tatuus T-318. Two current participants of the championship, Dutch driver Beitske Visser and Japanese driver Miki Koyama will set benchmark lap times for new participants on the 4.2-kilometer track.

SMP Racing junior driver Irina Sidorkova said: "To be invited to the W Series test in Almeria next week is above my expectations. It is my first season in single-seaters and I’m grateful for this opportunity to test alongside other talented women. I am going to be one of the youngest drivers and I hope that my skills, will and determination will help me to qualify and fulfil my dream!"

Catherine Bond Muir, W Series CEO said: “Our inaugural W Series season has succeeded beyond our wildest expectations in so many ways, and so we are all incredibly excited to see what 2020 brings – not just in terms of the new driving talent we hope to see in Almeria, but also the new fans and enthusiasts from across the globe we hope to bring as we start our second year re-defining women’s motorsport.”

Dave Ryan, W Series Racing Director said: “Almeria is a technical and unforgiving circuit and as such is a perfect stage for aspiring drivers to show us their talent. With Beitske and Miki both on hand to set reference laps, we will soon be able to see who has what it takes to join W Series next season.”

Just before the W Series tests Irina Sidorkova will take part in the fifth round of the Formula 4 Spain Championship, which will take place on September 14-15 at the Jerez Circuit in Spain.
