SMP Racing junior driver Alexander Smolyar finished in third place overall according to the results of the 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup season.In total, the Russian won three races, six times stood on the second step of the podium and once on the third. Smolyar has scored 255 points.
The season finale took place in Abu Dhabi on October 25-27. Alexander took fourth place in Race 1 and sixth place in the final race on Saturday.
“Honestly, it was a difficult weekend for me,” SMP Racing driver Alexander Smolyar said. “There were certain problems with the car and it was quite hard for me to get comfortable on the track. However, we managed to score important points in both races. Third place in the final standings of the championship is a good result, one which I feel is a just reward for our efforts all season. Thanks to my coaches and the entire SMP Racing team, as well as the R-ace GP team for this weekend and the whole season.”
“The weekend was not easy for Alexander, but he tried to get the most out of the situation by scoring good points in both races,” Petr Aleshin, director of the junior SMP Racing program, added. “As for the championship as a whole, I would like to note that Alexander, in addition to his speed, gained consistency, and third place in such a difficult championship is the best confirmation of this.”
